Jurassic World

Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor’s interest (Source: IMDB)

After two mediocre predecessors, Jurassic World gets back to the nitty gritty. Giving me the feeling that I’ve gone back in time to watch the original for the first time again. I really think they nailed this one. The suspense, the feel, the look.. all said Jurassic Park to me. Though Spielberg did not direct this one, it had his spirit in the details. It wasn’t perfect, but, certainly made up for those two awful films (The Lost World and Jurassic Park III).

Now, let’s take a look at some of the finer details.. Spoilers Ho!

John Hammond’s park has come alive, with the help of corporate sponsorship. Looking more like DisneyLand, with 20,000+ people visiting per day. The grounds are complete with a concourse of shops, hologram info booths.. baby herbivore rides for the kids.. but, of course, as humans tend to be.. we get bored with the norm.. if Dinosaurs can be considered the “norm”. And they decide that the next step would be to genetically engineer a brand new dino attraction. The Indominous Rex.

The Indominous Rex is larger than the Tyrannosaurus, and through genetic engineering with multiple reptiles and amphibians, is able to Camouflage itself like a chameleon, control its heat output (like a tree frog?) to avoid infrared cameras, it has longer arms than the T-Rex and can move much faster.. it is also highly intelligent.

Oh.. it’s also been designed, part Raptor. Oh Goodie. Hey.. I have an idea.. let’s cross a T Rex, with a Raptor and make it almost impossible to track or even see in the forest! What a great idea! I wonder if this is the same company that commissioned the Xenomorph Project in Alien. Idiots.

Dr Wu, the geneticist from Jurassic Park, is back and on the company payroll. Completely obsessed with this life’s work and willing to do anything to see his marvels come to life. In the end, he escapes with modified frozen embryos, so who knows.. perhaps there’s another sequel opened up with that.

Hoskins is working with InGen with hopes of a military application for the Raptors. The scary thing is.. he actually thinks this is a good idea!

Wait a minute.. dangerous monsters, stupidly being bred in hopes of a military application? Did someone give these people the script to Return of the Living Dead III? In any case, go see this one on the big screen, I’ll definitely be adding it to my collection.
