Comedy of Terrors

It’s an all star of classic Hollywood Horror.. in a comedy? Yes. Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Basil Rathbone and Boris Karloff play off each other very well in this comedy of “errors” story of an Undertaker and his bumbling assistant. It seems that when business is slow, Mr Trumble (Vincent Price) and Mr Gillie (Peter Lorre) will dig up customers any way they can.. even by force. But, things get a little out of hand when they set their sites on their Land Lord, Mr Black (Basil Rathbone).

I really didn’t know what to expect, when actors better known for playing some of Horror’s greatest characters, take up comedy. I was pleasantly surprised. The pacing of the dialog seems to be inspired by a Shakespearian style, which sounds odd at first.

Vincent and Peter are great, especially when dealing with Basil Rathbone‘s portrayal of the unkillable Mr Black.

I recommend this film for anyone, even the youngsters.

Oh.. and watch as the cat steals the show!
