Pay the Ghost

One year after Mike Lawford’s young son disappeared during a Halloween carnival, he is haunted by eerie images and terrifying messages he can’t explain. Together with his estranged wife, he will stop at nothing to unravel the mystery and find their son-and, in doing so, he unearths a legend that refuses to remain buried in the past.

I liked this one, for the most part. Nic Cage is good as the grieving father in search of his lost son.. the effects were.. not too bad, although the vultures where on that border of looking fake. You can tell they were added in. But.. This story falls apart in the third act.

This is not a secret, mystical sign of a Celtic Witch symbolizing her need to steal children in revenge for the death of her children. This is the “Triple Goddess” symbol, very common and well known in the neo-pagan community. Representing the Maiden, Mother and Crone. It is a symbol of the life cycle, a fertility cycle.. and nothing more. It has nothing to do with revenge. It has nothing to do with taking children. And that’s where your story falls apart.

I was OK with the idea of the son being taken away, on Halloween, by a ghost or other supernatural force. But the back story they came up with, was just stupid.
