Bride of Frankenstein

Mary Shelley reveals the main characters of her novel survived: Dr. Frankenstein, goaded by an even madder scientist, builds his monster a mate.

It’s actually quite sad, how I’m finding that these Universal Monster Movies just don’t hold up. Or, at least that’s the case of Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein. Parts of this story are ludicrous, for example.. Dr. Pretorius and his miniature people.. or the outrageously annoying house servant, Minnie. They play such an up front role in the film, with no real payoff, that they almost make the movie unwatchable.

Seriously speaking, this was only a “Frankenstein” story for half of the 74 minute runtime. And the “Bride” was only on camera at the 1:10 mark, in a movie that only lasted for another 4 minutes (including end credits). Disappointing to say the least. But, at least I now know why there’s only one clip ever shown of her (hissing). There’s no other footage to be had!
