So, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything… here’s what’s up.
I left EverQuest II after living in the lands of Norrath for 11 years (15 years if you count EverQuest I). That’s a long time. At first, I thought I just needed a break. That break went from days, to weeks, to months.. finally a year had passed. During that time, Elquin had left Norrath as well, and started playing Final Fantasy XIV. I was resistant to getting involved in another game, but finally broke down and gave it a try.
During the last… oh.. four years or so, I’ve become quite bored with how things were progressing in EQII. Updates geared mostly geared toward the high end, friends leaving for other games, Open Role Play all but dead. I became jaded and began to wonder where the hell my 30’s went. Oh yeah.. EverQuest. Yes, I spent then entirety of my 30’s (from age 30 to 45) in Norrath. I called it quits, and announced Jethal’s retirement.
Here now, I find my self with Elquin playing a new game and badgering me to give it a try. I really didn’t want to get into the same rut. Putting effort and time (and money) into something that I may, honestly, have grown out of. So, I tried it.
Final Fantasy XIV has brought me into a place that I thought I had lost. The wonder and excitement of a new world. Actually feeling a bit of fear while exploring zones that I shouldn’t be in.. and the Story.. The STORY. FFXIV is very story driven. May games have a “main quest line” but this one is something else.. and that something else is you. YOU are the hero of this story. Every cut-scene, every adventure, the rise to the top, and the tragedy. You are there the whole time. Your avatar put into the center of attention. With out YOU.. the world will fall. I love it.
I was young, honing my skills. I was recruited and tested by an elite group… then things changed. I began having visions but kept it to myself.. I was followed by a pair of characters and watched. They watched as a I followed my class guild take down a powerful foe, then joined in to help as the others had left, and a new foe came for me. I worked on quest and adventure and came back to our base of operations to find tragedy!! I mourned, I gathered myself.. I sought vengeance! Faced the greatest foe my world had seen and I saved the day! I Am a Scion of the Seventh Dawn.
I really do love this game and what it’s made me feel. It’s that wonder, that want to continue the story, because it doesnt end.
