Alien 3

And here, my friends, is where we “Jump the Shark”

Jumping the Shark: (of a television series or movie) reach a point at which far-fetched events are included merely for the sake of novelty, indicative of a decline in quality.

After escaping from the alien planet, Ripley, Newt, and Hicks rest in their Cryo pods on their way to Earth. Unknown to them, an Alien Egg is aboard the ship and a Facehugger is on the lose. Injuring itself to break into Newt’s pod, the huggers acid blood eats through some wiring and starts an electrical fire.. The pods containing Newt and Hicks are disabled, and ejected into space while the ship makes its way to the nearest planet. A penal colony, where Ripley awakens. Of course.. she didn’t arrive alone..

Overly complicated at times with no real explanations on a few key points.. like, how and when the hell did the alien get on the escape ship to set the eggs in there.. only a queen could lay eggs, and she got blown out an air lock at the end of the last movie.

The first movie was methodical and paced with purpose. The 2nd movie was action packed and exciting. Alien 3 seems like a failed attempt to do both.. poorly. It has some redeeming qualities, but not many. Sigourney carries the entire show.
