Howling 4

A successful author was sent to the small town Drago because of a nervous breakdown, and gets wound up in a mysterious mystery about demons and werewolves. She starts seeing ghosts and dismisses them as her own imagination, but when they turn out to be real, she starts to get suspicious of the small town and of its past. But at the heart of this scenic, serene village is much darker than its benign appearance; and while she hopes her vacation will dispel her visions

I read in the IMDB trivia that this movie was based off the same book as The Howling, but more true to the source material. This may or may not be true. But, what I can say beyond a shadow of any doubt is. this is a horrible movie, and my quality of life has been made worse by watching it. For I will never get those 94 minutes back, nor can I un-see the horrifically bad (and groteque) transformation sequence, if you can call it that..

The ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording) is badly out of sync.. this is the process where the actors studio-record their lines in cases where the set mics did not pick up their voices clearly. Most of the dialogue is flat and emotionless with only a few decent acting jobs in the entire film.. and it’s not by any of the main cast.

Some of the plot points are ridiculously bad.

  • (Wolf howl) Marie: “Did you hear that?” / Richard: “You must be crazy.. there are no wolves out here”
  • (Wolf howl) Marie: “You had to have hear that..” / Richard: “You need to sleep”
  • Marie: “I shot a wolf!” / Richard: “I’ll take a look.. (goes out on the porch, and comes right back) nope, there are no wolves”
  • Richard “I got attacked by a wolf!” (next scene) Richard “No, I fell. there are no wolves”

The story claims that the werewolves are satanists.. demons.. the devil.. sigh..

OH.. BTW, it was 1 hour and 4 minutes before you actually saw a WEREWOLF in this Werewolf Movie..

The transformation scene has Richard melting into a puddle of goo, then re-emerging to complete the change, which looks more like someone smooshed the wolf mask flat, then inflated it again.. it’s just really really bad.

This is one of those bad movies that I have to advice avoiding at all costs. Truly pathetic and a detriment to the genre.
